When the Canadian
national cricket
team steps onto
the Dallas stadium’s grassy
field on Saturday, June 1 for
its first-ever ICC T20 World
Cup encounter, Barbados-born
Nichloas Rasheed
Kirton will be expected to be
among the eleven players
doing so.
Born, May 6, 1998
in Barbados and now aged
25 years, and counting,
Nicholas Kirton has of late
become one of Canada’s
most dependable cricketers,
across all formats!
His mother being Canadian-born
of Bajan heritage and
his father a 100%
pure son of “the Rock,’
Kirton has enjoyed the
privilege of playing cricket
for either country, whenever
it becomes most convenient
for him to do so.
As a left-handed middle-order
batsman, he has to
date appeared in just 13 T20I
matches for his adopted
Canada. By comparison his
appearances in Barbados’
blue and yellow colours had
been much more numerous46 in total already, comprised of 5 T20Is, 3 First
Class, 30 List A, and 8 T20s.
Kirton has, however, been somewhat more
consistent when playing for Canada than
Barbados. His 13 T20I matches in Canadian
colours thus far have produced 249 runs for a
commendable average 0f 27.66 scored at a
relatively impressive strike rate of 116.35.
Kirton has also played 10 ODI matches for
Canada. His appearances in those matches
have produced 327 runs at an average of
40.87.
Come this June and Canada’s matches
in the 2024 T20 World Cup against such
powerhouses as India, Pakistan and
Ireland, not to mention arch-rivals USA,
Nicholas Kiton will definitely be One To
Watch. With much to prove to all those
back home in his native Barbados, Kirton
will have all the incentive he could ever
need to perform at his very best during
the 2024 World Cup, If he does Canada
could also very well create an upset or
two!
