Matthews, DaSilva: WI Wickets March Issue Personalities Of The Month!

West Indies Women’s all-rounder Hayley Matthew’s and Men’s Test
wicket-keeper/batsman Joshua DaSilva are the WI Wickets March 2022
Issue’s Personalities of the Month. Both were chosen as a result of their
respective outstanding performances in West Indies team colours during
the month.
Matthews’ honour, her third since
WI Wickets was first launched last
August, 2021, is in recognition of
her outstanding performances, with
both bat and ball, for the West Indies
Women’s team during its recent failed
ICC World Cup campaign. The West
Indies reached the semi-finals of the
New Zealand hosted eight ICC global
marquee event, involving international
crickets top eight Women’s teams,
before crashing to a humiliating defeat
at the hands of the eventual tournament
winners, unbeaten Australia.
Matthews, however, had the distinguished honour of being the only
West Indian to be included in the ICC’s Team of the Tournament which
was selected following the championship’s conclusion. Mathews scored
260 runs from 7 innings batted at an average of 37.14 to emerge as the
West Indies top batter during the tournament. She was also the West
Indies’ only centurion, scoring a career-best 119, in their opening match
against tournament hosts New Zealand. Her 10 wickets, captured at
an average of 26.80 from 61.5 overs bowled at a highly respectable 4.33
economy rate, were also the most taken by any West Indies bowler
during the tournament.
DaSiva’s honour is in recognition of his having topped the West Indies
team’s batting averages at the conclusion of its recent Test Series against
the visiting England. Da Silva amassed 195 runs from 4 completed innings
and with two not outs to end with a recorded average of 97.50. His 195
runs scored included a maiden
Test century, 100* during the
West Indies’ second innings of
the third and final Test. A knock
which provided the foundation for
the West Indies’ eventual victory
in the Test and the 1-0 Series
win.
DaSilva also claimed 10
dismissals, comprised of eight
catches and two stumpings
during the three-Test Series.
