Wickets June Laurels & Darts!

A full slate of five Laurels for this Wickets June Issue and most thankfully
only two darts. Highly deserving laurels are being presented to Shai
Hope, Andre Russell, Roston Chase, Alzarri Joseph, and the West
Indies Test Selectors. The two equally deserving darts have been
duly thrown at the ICC’s T20 World Cup Ticketing Committee and
West Indies whiteball cricket Head Coach Daren Sammy.

LAURELS:

187.71 that was Shai Hope’s
cumulative strike rate for the two innings he
batted during the recently concluded 2024
ICC T20 World Cup. A strike rate that was
the very best among all tournament batters.
Hope also averaged 53.50 to emerge at
the top of the West Indies batting at the
conclusion of the tournament!

Kudos to Andre Russell whose 2024 T20
World Cup all-round performances were highly
commendable. The 36-year-old Russell defied both
age and his doubters by recording a cumulative
strike rate of 165.95, the tournament’s third highest
among all batters. With his bowling he also captured
11 wickets the second most by a West Indian.

Barbados’ Roston Chase was another
West Indian all-rounder with outstanding 2024 T20
World Cup performances. With the bat Chase
finished second among the West Indies batters with
an average of 47.00 from his three innings. He also
recorded an impressive strike rate of 130.55. Chase’s
offspin bowling also captured 7 wickets for the West
Indies and an outstanding economy rate of 5.33.

Alzarri Joseph for demonstrated superb
leadership of the West Indies bowling attack during
the 2024 T20 World Cup. Joseph’s 13 wickets,
captured at a highly commendable economy rate
of 7.22, were the most by any West Indies bowler.

Cricket West Indies Test Selectors for their
most welcomed futuristic thinking inclusion of
the promising Guyanese pacer Isai Thorne as the
sixteenth, developmental player, member of the
announced West Indies Test squad to England.
Thorne’s inclusion will undoubtedly provide him with
most valuable Test Series exposure which might
even fast-track his selection to the West Indies Senior
team in the not-too-distant future. Well Done Messrs
Haynes and Cooley!

DARTS:

The ICC’s 2024 T20 World Cup
Ticketing Committee for overall shoddy
ticket pricing! The reality that so many of
the tournament’s matches were played
in front of less than full on-site spectator
attendances was a most direct reflection
of the Committee’s inappropriate ticket
pricing.

West Indies T20 Head Coach
Daren Sammy for his overall blundering of
the West Indies t20 World Cup campaign
which ended with their failure to progress
beyond the Super8 stage. Continuous use of
Johnson Charles as the West Indies’ opening
batter, the delayed final eleven inclusion
of Shai Hope and the absolute non match
selection of Shimron Hetmeyer were among
the countless blunders made by Sammy
and his coaching cadre during the West
Indies failed campaign..
