Four Laurels wreathed and three darts thrown in this Wickets
Issue. Deserving Laurels to Sir Richie Richardson, Nicholas Pooran,
Gudakesh Motie and Alzarri Joseph. Equally deserving darts thrown
at Guyana’s Ministry, the Caribbean
Premier League Umpires and Andre Russell.
Heartiest congrats to former West
Indies captain and outstanding batter Sir
Richie Richardson for officiating in 50 Men’s
Test matches as an ICC Match Referee.
Richardson, a member of the Emirates ICC
Panel of Elite Match Referees, reached
the landmark when he took the field in the
first Test between Pakistan and England in
Multan on Monday last.
The 62-year-old former West Indies Captain
has also officiated in 99 Men’s ODIs, 99 Men’s
T20Is, eight Women’s ODIs and 15 Women’s
T20Is, since making his international debut in
February 2016.
Kudos to Nicholas Pooran for emerging
as the highest run-scorer in this year’s recently
concluded 2024 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier
League. Pooran scored 504 runs from 11 completed
innings at an average of 56.00. His runs also included
one century and two half-centuries.
Congrats to Gudakesh Motie for being the
Republic Bank 2024 Caribbean Premier League’s
highest Caribbean-born wicket-taker. Motie’s 17
wickets were captured at ab economy rate of 7.28
in 13 matches played. He was just five short of the
League leader Noor Ahmad who took 22 wickets at
a 6.19 economy rate.
Congrats to Alzarri Joseph for being the
highest ranked, most successful wicket-taking
speedster at this year’s Republic Bank 2024
Caribbean Premier League. Joseph captured 12
wickets at a 8.25 economy rate to lead all seamers.
DARTS
To Guyana’s Ministry of Sports for having failed to issue a public apology for
the Providence Stadium’s temporary light failure which
so badly affected the 2024 Republic Bank Caribbean
Premier League Eliminator match between the
Barbados Royals and Trinbago Knight Riders. It was most
unsportsmanlike for the Minister not to have publicly
apologized for a most unfortunate incident which was
nothing short of a National embarrassment for Guyana!
To the 2024 Republic Bank
Caribbean Premier League’s team of
Umpires for demonstrated incompetency
during this year’s tournament. The number
of errors made by standing on-field umpires
was appalling. Even more so the far too
many gaffes made by the third, television,
umpires!
To Andre Russell for his expletive
strewn Facebook pisted rant following
the Trinbago KnightRiders loss of their CPL
Eliminator match to the Barbados Royals.
Russel’s post was most unbecoming on a
West Indian and internationally renowned
cricketer of his standing.
