The Hamilton Lashley Human Development Foundation has announced that preparations for the inaugural Tony Cozier and Reds Perreira 23 and Under T-6 Regional Cricket Tournament scheduled for April 14th to 18th, 2022 in Barbados are on stream.
The Foundation has confirmed that Trinidad and Tobago have indicated they are sending two teams, Jamaica, Dominica, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda will each have a representative, while host country Barbados are expected to provide four teams as it seeks to honor these two distinguished West Indies commentators and writers. At present a number of Barbadian teams are competing for the four final spots.
The matches will be contested at the 3Ws Cricket Oval located at University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus. It is only fitting that this tournament will be played at 3Ws Oval given its rich cricketing background, where an academy is named after the Right Excellent Sir Garfield Sobers and the Pavilion named after former West Indies opener Floyd Reifer.
The theme of the Cozier/Perreira Cup will be ‘One Caribbean, One Sport, One People, One Love’ which signifies the importance of togetherness within our region and creating the necessary investment for the development of our young cricketers.
The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc is expected to provide support for the Cozier/Perreira Cup while Barbados Cricket Association Conde Riley has endorsed this tournament to honor the two West Indian commentators. Discussions have also been held between the Foundation’s representatives and the Barbados Minister of Youth, Sport and Community Empowerment about plans for the event’s execution.
