Two Josephs one female, the other male and both West Indies cricketers
are the featured Cover Personalities for this month’s WI Wickets April
2022 Issue. Qiana Joseph has earned her cover spot as a result of her
outstanding performances during the recently concluded Windwards
islands’ Qiana Joseph was adjudged Player of the Tournament at the
conclusion of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) and Trinidad and Tobago
Women’s Cricket Association’s Girls 19 and Under T20 competition.
Her male counterpart Alzharri has been raising eyebrows at this year’s
Indian Premier League (IPL).
Player of the Tournament Qiana Joseph continued her fine form with the
bat as she smashed an unbeaten 65 to lead her team to a respectable
total of 117/8 from their 20 overs in the tournament Final against hosts
Trinidad 7 Tobago. Joseph’s valiant effort proved to be in vain though as
Trinidad and Tobago maintained the high level of cricket they’d displayed
throughout to defeat the Windward Islands by 7 wickets to lift the title.
Qiana made her debut at the age of 16 for the West Indies Women;
she was included in the 2017 World Cup squad. Since then she has been
in and out of the senior team but has remained a part of the Windward Islands team. A nifty slow bowler who can be called upon to provide variations in the bowling attack.
This month’s Cover featured Male Personality is Antigua-born, West Indies pacer Alzharri
Joseph who is now actively playing in the 2022 IPL as a member of the
new entry Gujarat Titans franchise. Bowling with impressive pace at
speeds regularly and comfortably in excess of 140/kph Joseph has to
date captured 4 wickets from 12 overs bowled in 3 matches played at an
average of 25 and with a T20 respectable economy rate of 8.33.
