As evidenced by the inclusion of their
respective photos on the cover
page logoed banner of this month’s
WI Wickets October Issue, Cricket West
Indies Women’s Media Manager Nassira
Mohammed and former West Indies
Captain Jason Holder are our chosen
Personalities of the Month. As such they are
both deserving of our highest kudos.
As the current Media and Content Officer
of the West Indies Women’s Cricket Team,
Nassira Mohammed actually held the same
position on the West Indies Men’s Cricket
Team in 2018. She was the first woman to
ever hold that position on the men’s team
in its 92-year history. Since then Nassira has
been simply outstanding in the performance
of her duties.
Foremost among Nassira’s numerous duties
as the West Indies Women’s Team’s Media
Officer is the issuance of Press Releases
on matters of importance that should be
shared with the general public, vis the
media. Nassira’s Media Releases always
been issued in a most timely manner, They
have also been sufficiently detailed as to
provide all the required information on the
relevant matters.
As such for those who, as West Indies
cricket related media practitioners who
have in customary receipt of Nassira’s
Press Releases, their subsequent writings
have been made that much easier by her
provided very detailed information. Copy
and paste is so very often the only action
required following the receipt of a Nassira
Mohammed issued West Indies Women’s
Cricket Media Release!
Shockingly omitted from the selected
West Indies Men’s original squad of 15 for
the ICC T20 World Cup, and somewhat
insultingly regulated to the status of a
traveling Reserve, former West Indies
captain Jason Holder has since duly
embarrassed the West Indies’ Selectors for
their highly controversial decisions. As fate
would have it, Obed McCoy’s subsequent
failure to recover fully from the shin splints
he had suffered prior to the tournament,
eventually resulted in Holder replacing him
on the squad just prior to the West Indies’
third match, a must win encounter against
their fellow bottom of the points table
occupants Bangladesh. Holder fully grasped
the opportunity with both of his very large
hands.
Included in the West Indies final XI for
October 29 encounter, Holder struck
two much needed boundaries in a breezy
cameo innings of 15 made off of just five
balls to help the West Indies reach its
eventual first strike total of 142-7 from its
allocated 20 overs. His economical bowling,
which yielded 1/22-4, then helped restrict
Bangladesh to an eventual total of 138/5-
20 to give the West Indies an essential
victory by just three runs.
Holder’s height also proved crucial
in his boundary catching dismissal of
Bangladesh’s top scorer Liton Das.
Attempting to hit a six off the last delivery
of Dwayne Bravo’s fourth and final over, the
nineteenth of the innings, Das must have
thought that he’d successfully cleared the
boundary only to see, in absolute dismay,
the ball being plucked out of the air by
Holder’s extended hands.
Having proven his worth Jason Holder
should now be an automatic pick for the
West Indies playing XI’s in their remaining
two matches. Hopefully his contributions
will also be as impactful as they were in his
first appearance.
Kudos To Mohammed & Holder!
