The West Indies Women’s team will be
seeking to do much better than their
male counterparts did at the ongoing ICC
2022 Men’s T20 World Cup when they head to
South Africa in February to participate in the
tournament’s distaff version. West Indies will be
one of the top 10 teams in the world bidding
for the ultimate prize at Women’s T20 cricket’s
marquee tournament. South Africa will take on
Sri Lanka in the championship’s opening match
at Newlands on 10 February, in accordance with
the recently announced tournament schedule
for the biggest-ever women’s sporting event in
Africa.
Bangladesh and Ireland complete the list of
participating teams, joining Australia, England,
India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri
Lanka and the West Indies in the eighth edition
of the Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be a
spectacular celebration for everyone to be a part of.
West Indies, who won the title in 2016 – has been
drawn in Group B alongside India, Pakistan, England
and Ireland. They will have their first match in Paarl on
Saturday, February 11.
The Western Cape will play host to a bumper opening
weekend of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Boland Park
will host the first double-header, with England and the
West Indies in action in the early match, followed by
defending champions Australia taking on New Zealand.
The four sub-continent sides will headline the second
double-header at Newlands on Sunday as India takes on
Pakistan and Bangladesh face Sri Lanka.
