Wickets July 2024: Laurels & Darts!

Five deserving Laurels presented in this Wickets July 2024 Issue. Just two
darts deservedly thrown respectively at Cricket Canada and Cricket West
Indies.

Jayden Seales for his excellent
return from injury performances during
the recently concluded England-West
Indies 2024 3Tests Series. Seales was the
West Indies’ highest wicket-taker capturing
13 wickets at an average of 27.23.  He also
had best bowling figures of 4/77 during the
series!

Kaveem Hodge for scoring his maiden Test
century during the England-West Indies three-match
series. Hodge’s 120, in the West Indies’ first innings of
the second Test, was the highest individual score for
the team during the entire series. Hodge also scored
a half-century in the third Test.

Mikyle Louis for scoring his maiden half-century
during the 2024 England – West Indies three-match series. Louis finshed his debut Test series with 162 runs from six innings batted at an average of 27. A decent start to his Test career from which he will, hopefully, progress to a very bright future!

Alick Atahanze for finally recording his
maiden Test half-century. Atahanze scored 82
during the first innings of the second Test. Falling,
agonizingly, just 18 runs short of what would have
been a most deserving maiden Test century!

Deandra Dottin for having come out of
retirement to assist the West Indes Women’s team in
its T20 World Cup glory quest later this year. Dottin’s
outstanding all-round skills with both bat and ball,
as well as her legendary world-class fielding will
undoubtedly provide a much-welcomed and
needed fillip to the West Indies’ hopes of going
deep into the tournament.
DARTS:

Cricket Canada for its most shocking,
unjust and unfair decision not to renew Pubudu
Dassanayake’s contract as its National Senior Cricket Team Head Coach. Since having been appointed to the role Coach Pubudu, as he is fondly known as by all of his players, helped Canada to regain official ODI status, secure an ICC CWC Challenge League 2 promotion, and qualify for the
recently concluded T20 World Cup for the very first time in the country’s history! A
decision deserving of a full handful of darts not merely one!

Cricket West Indies for a complete
lack of transparency in announcing the
selection of the Championship team to play
the scheduled warm-up fixture against the
visiting South Africans prior to their two Tests
series against hosts West Indies. With the
former Selection Chair Desmond Haynes
having demitted office at the end of June,
no official announcement of his appointed
replacement had not yet been made when
The championship team was announced.
Cricket fans within the region and beyond
were, therefore, left to wonder as to who it
was exactly that selected the Championship
team.
